How to make Galbi

Galbi

Here is a basic recipe for Galbi, a Korean dish made with marinated beef short ribs:

Ingredients:

  • 3-4 pounds beef short ribs, cut into thin slices (about 1/4 inch thick)
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup mirin (sweet rice wine)
  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar
  • 1/4 cup sesame oil
  • 1/4 cup chopped scallions
  • 1/4 cup minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1/2 cup water

Instructions:

  1. In a large bowl, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, mirin, rice vinegar, sesame oil, scallions, garlic, black pepper, and water. Mix well to create the marinade.
  2. Add the beef short ribs to the marinade and toss to coat. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and let marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2-3 hours, or overnight for best results.
  3. When ready to cook, remove the short ribs from the marinade and shake off any excess.
  4. Heat a grill or grill pan over high heat. Grill the short ribs for 2-3 minutes per side, or until cooked to your liking.
  5. Serve the Galbi hot, garnished with chopped scallions and sesame seeds if desired.
